Job summary

Alsco Uniforms in Virginia Beach is seeking a Custodian (Janitor) to maintain equipment, facilities and grounds. The role includes heavy cleaning, scrubbing, mopping, trash disposal and preparing spaces for meetings or events.

It also covers basic outside maintenance and ensuring areas remain safe and presentable. You may operate a powered industrial truck where required, follow safety programs, keep maintenance logs, and restock supplies.

Qualifications

• Must recognize colors and sizes and count accurately.
• In some locations, certified to operate a powered industrial truck safely.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning products and procedures or willing to learn.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively with a team.
• Work independently and follow written or verbal directions.

Responsibilities

• Performs heavy cleaning duties such as cleaning plant equipment and facilities.
• Scrub, sanitize, vacuum, sweep and mop; dispose of trash and clean spills.
• Prepare facilities for events, meetings or banquets; clean offices and restrooms.
• Move furniture and equipment; assist other departments as needed.
• Conduct outside maintenance; clear walkways of snow or leaves.
• Participate in safety programs and use PPE; report repairs or hazards.
• Keep maintenance records and restock cleaning supplies in restrooms and break rooms.
• Operate a powered industrial truck to move, transfer, load and unload where required.
• Maintain a neat, safe work area and follow supervisor instructions.
