Job summary

The City of New York's Office of Chief Medical Examiner is hiring an Institutional Aide for an 18-month temporary assignment in the Facilities Unit. Under supervision, you will perform routine maintenance and sanitation tasks to support safe, clean facilities across the agency.

Responsibilities include waste disposal, cleaning of walls and floors, restrooms, and loading/unloading supplies; occasional outdoor grounds work such as snow shoveling; and ensuring proper handling of materials per

• Ability to read and write English and to understand and carry out simple instructions.

Responsibilities

• Dispose of garbage and maintain sanitation; break down cartons.
• Empty wastepaper baskets; polish metal; move furniture.
• Wash plaster, tile and marble walls and wallpaper.
• Maintain floors: sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing.
• Clean porters' closets, storage and supply areas.
• If outside grounds-work: sweep, clean trash; shovel snow when applicable.
• Unload, store and issue supplies as needed.
• Clean toilets, baths, showers, offices, stairs and hallways.
• Package and label bio-hazardous waste; transfer to private contractor.
• Other duties as assigned.
