Job summary

Motor City Electric is seeking a Full-time Fabrication Welder in Fraser, MI to fabricate, cut, weld, and assemble metal components for construction and electrical projects. You will work with shop leadership, Field Operations, and Project Managers to meet drawings, specs, and safety standards.

Responsibilities include layout, cutting, welding (MIG/TIG/Stick), material prep, equipment operation, and quality checks. Travel to job sites may be required; driver’s license preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Welding certification preferred; AWS certification is a plus.
• Minimum three to five years of welding and fabrication experience preferred.
• Experience in commercial, industrial, manufacturing, or electrical construction fabrication is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
• Experience with MIG welding required; TIG, Stick, and Flux-Cored welding experience preferred.
• Ability to accurately use measuring tools (tape measures, squares, levels, calipers).
• Knowledge of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other fabrication materials is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding, fabrication, layout, fitting, cutting, grinding, drilling, and assembly of metal components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, specifications, weld symbols, and work orders.
• Fabricate supports, brackets, frames, racks, stands, assemblies, and other custom metal components.
• Perform MIG, TIG, Stick, and/or Flux-Cored welding as required by the project.
• Measure, cut, fit, and prepare materials to meet drawing and project requirements.
• Inspect completed welds and fabricated assemblies for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.
• Operate fabrication tools and equipment including saws, grinders, drills, torches, plasma cutters, presses, and welding machines.
• Assist with material handling, staging, loading, unloading, and organization of fabricated materials.
• Coordinate with shop supervision, Field Operations, and Project Managers to meet project schedules and quality expectations.
• Identify and resolve fabrication issues, drawing conflicts, material shortages, and fit-up problems.
• Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and proper use of PPE.
• Perform quality checks and make adjustments or repairs as needed.
• Support field crews with fabricated components and special project requirements.
• Assist with layout drawings, field measurements, and as-built fabrication needs when required.
