Job description

What's it like working for an innovative company that takes on some of the world's most important challenges? Rewarding. At BAE Systems, we protect those who protect us. Our Jacksonville Ship Repair facility has multiple opportunities for fabrication welders with varying levels of experience.

  1. The primary tasks include welding newly fabricated structural members and plating.
  2. Additional tasks involve welding outfitting items such as electrical cableways, brackets, watertight hatches/doors, and other components in accordance with module fabrication.
  3. All tasks require strict adherence to the company's safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
  4. A structural welder should be able to read and utilize welding procedures and symbols.
  5. Proficiency in using oxy-fuel torches for pre-heating materials prior to welding is required.
  6. Ability to safely operate air carbon arc gouging equipment to gouge welds.
  7. Skill in using electric and pneumatic grinders for preparing materials and finishing welds.
  8. Use of measuring tools and gauges to verify weld joint dimensions per approved designs.
  9. Verification of weld size and quality using weld gauges in accordance with specifications.
  10. Utilization of ceramic backing in various positions with semi-automatic welding processes.
  11. Ability to pass groove-weld qualification tests in all positions for multiple materials and processes, including FCAW, SMAW, and GMAW-Pulse.
  12. Must be able to obtain a DBIDS Access Card.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  1. Ability to pass welding tests including FCAW with ceramic tape, single Vee, and open butt in 2G and 3G positions.
  2. Ability to perform GMAW pulse and spray arc in all positions.
  3. 3 to 5 years of experience in shop fabrication preferred.
  4. Must obtain and maintain a Defense Biometric Identification Systems (DBIDS) badge.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  1. Basic understanding of Military standards 1688 and 1689 for surface and submarine fabrication.
  2. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $44,720 - $78,520

Please note: Salaries are based on market pay structures and factors including skills, education, experience, and other considerations.
