Job summary

VSP Vision seeks an Optometric Technician for the Ideal Eye Team – Early Vision in Early, TX. This full-time role supports the optometrist with eye examinations, pre-testing, and patient history intake.

You will guide patients through the clinical experience, operate instruments, perform tests, and assist with contact lens procedures, while maintaining accurate records and delivering compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in related field.
• Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize tasks and answer calls.
• Effective written communication to document patient visits.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building abilities.
• Ability to assist with patient history intake and testing.
• Ability to maintain accuracy in patient records.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients before the examination by gathering information about the patient’s vision and medical history, explaining the exam process, and documenting all needed information in the patient’s record
• Able to work well with technology and various clinical instruments, taking measurements, and administering tests to determine the visual capabilities of the patient in preparation for the vision examination
• Perform contact lens insertion; educate and train patients on contact lens insertion and removal
• Order contact lenses of various types of materials and designs and manage contact lens trials inventory
• Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications
• Scribe for the doctor and translate as needed
• Prioritize patient care and patient flow while communicating effectively with doctors, staff, and patients
• Perform, under the direction of the Optometrist, some therapy exercises or procedures with the patient
• Assist in other areas of the office as necessary, such as answering phones, verifying insurance, checking in patients, scanning charts, maintaining a clean office, and checking patients in and out
• Work on special projects, cross-train in different departments, and perform other related duties as assigned or requested
