Job summary

Wonders Early Learning + Extended Day in Washington, DC is seeking an Extended Day Aide to support before/after care in school-age programs. The role emphasizes positive modeling, hands-on experiences, and emotional development, with planning aligned to Wonders curriculum.

Responsibilities include planning activities, teamwork with the Program Director, and maintaining safe, engaging spaces. This part-time role requires availability after school, with 18 hours of training annually and occasional

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required, with relevant supervised experience.
• At least 48 semester hours with 9 specifically in child and youth development and 6 months of supervised experience.
• Alternative: high school diploma with at least 1 year of supervised occupational experience with school-age children.

Responsibilities

• Actively plan learning activities balanced in all areas.
• Participate in team planning with Program Director and team.
• Lead planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities aligned with Wonders curriculum.
• Maintain open communication with families and staff.
• Assist in orientating and training new team members.
• Share teaching responsibilities and provide feedback to team members.
• Plan and participate in special events for children and families.
• Ensure spaces are safe, engaging, organized and reflective of children's lives.
• Develop behavior management strategies with the team.
• Attend a minimum of 18 hours of staff training yearly.
• Work extended hours on half and full-service days including winter and spring breaks and on early release days.
