Job summary

James Hardie is seeking a Maintenance Technician for our 24/7 manufacturing environment. You will diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, using PLC logic and VFDs to minimize downtime.

You’ll work independently across shifts, ensuring equipment readiness and contributing to TPM and uptime initiatives. Qualifications include 3+ years in manufacturing maintenance, ability to read schematics, forklift certification, and welding skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Must be able to work independently with limited direction.
• Strong history of troubleshooting industrial equipment in fast-paced environments.
• Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics.
• Experience navigating PLC ladder logic for troubleshooting (programming not required, but troubleshooting is).
• Welding experience (stick or wire) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Independently diagnose and repair equipment issues with a focus on minimizing downtime.
• Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic failures on complex industrial equipment.
• Utilize VFDs, motor control systems, HMIs, and PLC logic (Allen-Bradley preferred) for troubleshooting purposes.
• Maintain and improve production line performance through rapid response to equipment failures.
• Reduce MTTR and prevent repeat failures through strong root-cause analysis.
• Plan, prioritize, and complete work orders per shift.
• Maintain an 85%+ on-time completion rate for assigned work orders.
• Own scheduled PM tasks, ensuring completion and accuracy.
• Identify risks before breakdowns occur and recommend improvements to prevent recurring issues.
• Support reliability efforts, contributing to reduced unplanned downtime.
• Lead by example on 6S expectations and uptime improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to TPM activities and equipment health checks.
• Support improvement projects that increase throughput, speed, or reliability.
• Commission equipment after maintenance, ensuring smooth startup with minimal adjustments.
• Communicate effectively with operators, supervisors, and fellow maintenance techs.
• Share knowledge with team members and help elevate best practices across shifts.
