Job description

ExpeditorWorking at Simply Smart Industrial

Working at Simply Smart Industrial is fun, challenging, and meaningful. We are a team of driven, humble, and service-obsessed people who believe industrial distribution should feel human, fast, and genuinely helpful.

We exist to evolve the distribution business by delivering a customer experience no one knew was possible- and our niche is doing it at speed by shipping 95% of our orders the same day or next day, without sacrificing accuracy, integrity, or trust.

We are building a company obsessed with partnership, problem-solving, and raising the standard in an industry that often settles for “good enough.”

Our Vision

Evolve the Distribution Business by Delivering a Customer Experience No One Knew Was Possible

The Expeditor is a permanent, high-ownership administrative role for someone who takes pride in keeping orders moving—accurately and on time—from purchase order through final delivery.

This is a long-term coordination and administrative role. It is not a stepping stone into outside sales or field work.

It is a role for someone who is energized by organization, follow-through, and getting the details exactly right—and who wants to be the dependable person who makes sure every order lands on time, every time.

Your Impact

The person in this role will directly impact on-time delivery, order accuracy, and operational excellence—while helping advance our mission to redefine what exceptional service looks like in industrial distribution.

This person owns orders from purchase order through delivery with accuracy and urgency. They bring discipline, organization, and a bias for follow-through, and are constantly looking for better, faster, and smarter ways to keep every order on schedule and every customer informed.

Gold Standard

Speed alone is not a win. Service and trust are.

Our customers rely on us to keep their operations moving. It is our responsibility to connect people, processes, and partners to make that happen.

We do not build our business on what worked yesterday. We continuously improve how we quote, serve, communicate, and deliver—so we can define what exceptional industrial distribution looks like next.

About the Role

The Expeditor is the day-to-day owner of orders from purchase order through delivery. You turn customer POs into accurate sales orders, place purchase orders with vendors, arrange trucking, and expedite every open order until it is delivered complete—while keeping customers, vendors, and teammates clearly informed along the way.

As you build trust and demonstrate a strong understanding of our operations, systems, and vendors, you will earn more decision-making autonomy within the role and take on more complex orders and relationships.

What you will do
  • Verify that our quote matches the customer’s purchase order before anything moves forward
  • Process sales orders accurately in our ERP system
  • Place purchase orders with vendors
  • Set up trucking and coordinate freight
  • Expedite each order until delivery is complete
  • Proactively follow up on and expedite all open orders
  • Coordinate closely with sales, procurement, and the warehouse to keep every order on schedule
  • Keep customers, vendors, and teammates informed with clear, professional communication
What we care about most
  • Ownership mentality and accountability
  • Integrity in every decision
  • Authentic, customer-first communication
  • Hunger to learn, humility to accept feedback, and smart problem-solving
  • Strong teamwork and a no-gossip culture
  • A genuine desire to be helpful
  • Commitment to partnership—not transactions
  • Pride in delivering exceptional service
  • Hustle, grit, and resilience
  • A mindset of continuous improvement
  • Leading by example, regardless of title
How you will be measured
  • On-time delivery of open orders
  • Accuracy of sales orders, purchase orders, and quote-to-PO verification
  • Speed and consistency of follow-up on all open orders
  • The quality of your communication with customers, vendors, and teammates
  • Your impact on operational excellence and team culture
Expectations in this role

You will earn greater decision-making freedom as you build trust and demonstrate a strong understanding of our operations, systems, and vendors. The faster and deeper you learn, the more autonomy you will earn.

You will be evaluated on your ability to execute with accuracy, urgency, and follow-through. Early priorities and decisions will be guided by operations leadership as you build experience with our orders, vendors, and systems.

We operate lean and must outthink, not outspend. You are expected to be resourceful and use the tools, data, and people around you to keep orders moving and create meaningful operational impact.

Your personal growth must outpace the growth of the business. Continuous learning is essential to becoming a trusted, long-term contributor at Simply Smart Industrial.

You will meet regularly with your manager and cross-functional partners to review goals, priorities, results, and progress.

What’s needed to succeed
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage many open orders at once without letting anything slip
  • Excellent, professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience processing and managing orders in an ERP system (e.g., SOS Inventory, QuickBooks)
  • Experience coordinating logistics, freight, or trucking (LTL/FTL)
  • Comfort placing purchase orders and working directly with vendors
  • Familiarity with industrial distribution products—pipe, valves, fittings, flanges, and gaskets is a strong plus
  • Acute attention to detail and relentless follow-through
  • Familiarity with AI platforms and effective prompting to work faster and smarter
  • The ability to move quickly and stay organized in a fast-paced, operations-driven environment
  • A bias for execution and follow-up—not just intentions
Compensation & Benefits
  • Full-time position
  • $60,000 base salary, depending on experience
  • Bonus based on performance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Health insurance
  • Cell phone reimbursement
  • On-the-job training
  • Professional development assistance
  • Unlimited PTO and sick leave
  • Monday-Friday schedule
  • Work from home on Fridays
Who should apply

Detail-oriented, dependable, service-minded people who take pride in organization and follow-through and want to build a long-term administrative and coordination career in industrial distribution.

If you are driven by doing the right thing, serving others well, and getting the details exactly right—not just a title—this role was built for you.

Who should NOT apply
  • You see this role only as a stepping stone into outside sales or field work
  • You prefer to be told what to do instead of taking ownership
  • You cut corners when it is inconvenient to do things the right way
  • You avoid feedback, accountability, or difficult conversations
  • You work in silos instead of supporting the team
  • You participate in gossip or avoid solution-focused communication
  • You treat customers as transactions instead of partners
  • You are comfortable with “good enough”
  • You check out when things get fast or challenging
  • You are not committed to growing, improving, and leading by example
