Job summary

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES seeks an Agricultural Interdiction Inspector to inspect plants and high-risk commodities, enforce regulatory actions, and collect specimens for lab analysis. The role requires knowledge of plant pests, regulatory procedures, and strong field capabilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year of experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health, or in related science fields.
• Six months of experience as Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• Inspect plants and high-risk commodities at interstate interdiction stations to exclude pests.
• Collect, prepare, and submit insects and other samples for diagnosis or confirmation.
• Explain regulatory decisions to brokers or truck drivers and discuss options.
• Enforce adherence to Florida statutes and rules, maintain records and reports.
• Maintain knowledge of import/export regulations and verify permits.
• Assist in coordinating special programs and blitz days for pest surveys.
