Job summary

The Jewish Museum of Maryland seeks an Exhibits Manager to support an expanding exhibition program following capital updates and gallery expansions completed in 2025. Reporting to the Deputy Director, the role collaborates across departments to manage project timelines, budgets, and vendor contracts, while guiding graphic development and asset procurement.

This full‑time position requires strong writing, museum experience, and flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends; background checks

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; otherwise 3+ years in a similar role.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) preferred.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Jewish communal sector is a plus.
  • Experience in cultural heritage is a plus.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs may be required.
  • Requires extensive sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Must be willing to complete background checks as required by contracts.
  • Occasional Sunday and evening hours may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Support installation and maintenance of galleries and run of shows.
  • Provide support for internal and external exhibit curators.
  • Guide development, production, and installation of exhibit graphics.
  • Lead asset procurement for images, film, and audio.
  • Assist in loan processes with institutions and private lenders.
  • Manage project budgets, track expenses, and report on finances.
  • Oversee survey instruments and evaluation modalities for exhibit projects.
  • Supervise the Exhibits Coordinator.

Job description

Exhibits Manager

The Jewish Museum of Maryland (JMM) seeks an Exhibits Manager to support the organization as it continues to build a robust exhibition schedule following capital updates and expansion of gallery spaces completed in 2025. The Exhibits Manager, reporting to the Deputy Director, will work cross‑departmentally to support JMM exhibition development and execution.

Responsibilities
  • Project‑manage development for gallery‑based projects, including team development, schedules, meeting coordination, budgets, articulating project goals and strategy briefs, and general administrative tasks.
  • Manage RFP and MOU processes for relevant contracts, including curators, designers, multi‑media professionals, contractors, consultants, and vendors.
  • Support the installation and maintenance of JMM galleries, taking an active role in gallery preparations between exhibits and maintenance throughout the run of staged shows.
  • Provide support for internal and external exhibit curators.
  • Guide the development, production, and installation of exhibit graphic elements.
  • Lead the asset procurement process including image, film, and audio.
  • Assist in loan processes, working with both institutions and private individuals.
  • Manage project‑specific budgets, track expenses, and provide budgetary reporting.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of survey instruments and other evaluation modalities for exhibit‑based projects.
  • Supervise the Exhibits Coordinator.

Benefits
  • Annual salary for this position is $50,000 - $55,000.
  • Full‑time staff work 30 hours per week, within standard operating hours. Schedules are determined between each staff member and their manager.
  • Occasional evening or weekend shifts may be required to support museum operations and events.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, life insurance, Long Term Disability (LTD), Flexible Spending Plan, and a complimentary membership to the Jewish Community Center.
  • Three weeks vacation and 6 days of sick time per year.
  • JMM staff are unionized within Teamsters Local 355. This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Jewish holidays and major public holidays are observed as listed in the original description.
