Job summary

Ascension St. Vincent Evansville in Evansville, IN, is seeking staff for Public Safety Medical on a PRN schedule.

The role involves patient testing and rehabilitation assessment, planning and teaching exercise therapy, and monitoring responses with appropriate referrals as needed. Minimum requirements include a BLS Provider credential within 30 days of hire, and preferably Indiana Athletic Trainers Board licensure, ACSM Exercise Physiologist certification, or related Sports Medicine credentials.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider credential within 1 month of hire date (30 days).
• Athletic Trainer credential from Indiana Athletic Trainers Board preferred.
• Certification in Sports Medicine preferred.
• Exercise Physiologist credentialed from ACSM preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient testing and assessment before and after rehabilitation.
• Plans and teaches exercise therapy using test data, patient status and current medications.
• Monitors patient responses and revises exercise plan accordingly.
• Recognizes contraindications and abnormal responses; responds to all situations including referrals to medical professionals.
• Provides exercise information for patients, peers and the community; may include public speaking and education classes.
• Ensures department equipment is maintained, calibrated and functioning; schedules patient appointments.
• Provides oversight to department activities in the absence of the manager.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Provides patient testing and assessment before and after rehabilitation.
• Plans and teaches exercise therapy for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen. Monitors patient's response and revises plan accordingly.
• Recognizes contraindications and abnormal patient responses to exercise. Responds appropriately to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
• Provides exercise information for patients, peers and the community which may include public speaking and education classes.
• Ensures department equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and functioning correctly. Prepares develops and maintains various files, records, reports; schedules patient appointments as required.
• Provides oversight to department activities in the absence of the manager.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Required Credential(s):
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Preferred Credential(s):
  • Athletic Trainer credentialed from the Indiana Athletic Trainers Board.
  • Certification specializing in Sports Medicine.
  • Exercise Physiologist credentialed from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Education

• Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
