Merck is hiring the US Executive Director of Medical Affairs, Payer & Health Systems Oncology (PHS EDMA, Oncology) to lead payer, health system and field medical strategy in the US. The role blends strategic planning with hands-on leadership of the PHS MAD field teams, PASLs, and cross-functional partners.

You will shape country medical affairs plans, align with global plans, and drive tactical execution through field teams while ensuring compliant, data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree required with ability to lead scientific/medical colleagues.
• 7+ years of pharmaceutical payer experience, preferably in oncology.
• 5+ years of frontline field medical leadership in pharma or payer space.
• Proven track record implementing strategic medical initiatives.
• Experience navigating a complex, matrixed global organization.
• AI-first mindset and willingness to adopt new approaches.
• Strong executive communication and stakeholder management.
• In-depth knowledge of US healthcare ecosystem, HEOR and outcomes research.
• Willingness to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Lead a complex PHS MAD field team and PASLs to execute medical affairs strategy.
• Oversee US payer input into CMAPs and Global V&I Plans; manage budget and approval processes.
• Integrate external payer insights into strategic medical planning and field execution.
• Ensure compliant workflows from strategy to field execution across oncology portfolio.
• Foster cross-functional collaboration across USMA TA teams and Value Capabilities.
