Job summary

Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (BRPELS) in Washington is seeking a Deputy Director to lead executive functions, shape regulatory policy, and manage budgeting and staff. The role reports to the Director and guides the agency’s strategic initiatives.

The Deputy Director will direct credentialing, enforcement, and regulatory programs, while coordinating with public agencies and stakeholders to advance professional standards and ethics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience to hold active WA PE/PLS license.
• Eight years’ knowledge of engineers, land surveyors, OS site, licensing acts and board rules.
• Five years of government experience and administrative procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speech; strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develops and executes proactive methods to gain compliance with ethical professional standards and statutes.
• Serves as case investigation program manager coordinating with BRPELS staff and AG office.
• Participate in complaint investigations using expert knowledge of WA licensing laws and rules.
• Develops and oversees the Board’s Internal Control program using Lean methods.
• Oversees administrative, credentialing, and disciplinary action monitoring responsibilities.
• Directs and evaluates staff performance and training within budgets and supervises contractors.
• Represents BRPELS on national licensing committees and engages with stakeholders to define rules.
• Manages seven FTE direct reports and daily operations with executive leadership.
