The State of Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality seeks a Deputy Director (Deputy/Chief 6) to lead enforcement of environmental laws and executive leadership across air, water, and land programs. This position advances environmental justice and strategic agency objectives.

Based at DEQ Headquarters in Portland with a possible hybrid arrangement, you will supervise managers (direct 8; indirect 200+), represent the agency to officials and communities, and drive diversity, equity,

Qualifications

• Progressive management experience in a government agency or organization.
• Demonstrated leadership and commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Lead administration of enforcing environmental laws across air, water, and land.
• Coordinate with EPA and state statutes; represent the Director in Governor’s cabinet.
• Provide leadership to DEQ employees statewide and engage with partners.
