Job summary

HEI Civil in Texas seeks an experienced Excavator Operator to join our heavy civil team in Waco. You will operate excavators and related equipment to support roadways, utilities and water projects while coordinating with field crews to stay on schedule.

Five or more years of experience with excavators or similar heavy equipment, strong plan-reading skills, and a safety-first mindset are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Experience operating excavators or heavy construction equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and grade information.
• Knowledge of underground utility installation and grading practices.
• Strong hand-eye coordination and teamwork in outdoor sites.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators to perform excavation, trenching, grading and material handling.
• Operate additional heavy equipment as needed (loaders, dozers, graders, trucks).
• Work with crew to meet daily project goals and schedules.
• Follow plans, stakes and supervisor directions during excavation work.
• Complete daily equipment inspections and document findings.
• Keep equipment clean and in good condition; report maintenance needs.
• Participate in daily crew meetings and project planning activities.

We are seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to join our team in Waco, TX. The ideal candidate will operate excavators and other heavy equipment to support utility, earthwork, and heavy civil construction projects while working closely with field crews to help keep projects on schedule.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators to perform excavation, trenching, grading, material handling, and other construction activities.

• Operate additional heavy equipment as needed, including loaders, skid steers, dozers, motor graders, water trucks, and other construction equipment.

• Work closely with crew members and equipment operators to support daily project goals.

• Follow project plans, grade stakes, and supervisor direction while performing excavation work.

• Complete daily equipment inspections and accurately document findings.

• Keep assigned equipment clean and in good operating condition.

• Perform routine equipment checks and communicate maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate supervisor.

• Participate in daily crew meetings and project planning activities.

• Operate equipment in accordance with company procedures, project requirements, and applicable regulations.

• Assist with additional duties as assigned to support project operations when equipment is not in use.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience operating excavators and other heavy construction equipment.

• Familiarity with electronic equipment controls and operating systems.

• Working knowledge of excavation, underground utility installation, grading, and heavy civil construction practices.

• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, grade information, and work instructions.

• Strong hand-eye coordination and the ability to safely maneuver equipment in active construction environments.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

• Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and environmental conditions.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Five or more years of experience operating excavators or similar heavy construction equipment.

• Experience operating mainline excavators on heavy civil, utility, roadway, or site development projects is preferred.
