Job summary

Edgewood Properties, Inc. in South Plainfield, NJ is seeking an Estimator/Purchaser for its Excavation Division to support site development and earthwork projects.

You will prepare quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and manage material procurement, coordinating with the Division Manager, General Superintendent, Dispatcher, and Production Coordinator to ensure budgets and schedules are met. The role requires 3–5 years in excavation estimating and purchasing, plus a degree in Construction

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• 3–5 years in excavation, site work, or heavy civil construction estimating and purchasing.
• Strong knowledge of site development materials (aggregates, concrete, pipe, asphalt, fill)

Responsibilities

• Prepare quantity takeoffs for excavation and site development.
• Develop material, labor, and equipment cost estimates.
• Analyze drawings and specs to define scope.
• Collaborate to validate estimates and production rates.
• Maintain cost database for materials and subs.
• Source and secure competitive vendor pricing (3 vendors).
• Negotiate favorable terms and track deliveries.
• Issue POs and monitor material deliveries.
• Coordinate with dispatcher on pickups and deliveries.
• Communicate with field supervision on needs and timelines.
• Resolve shortages, delays, or quality issues.
• Assist scheduling alignment of purchasing with projects.
• Provide updates on estimating accuracy and budgets.
• Track material costs against budgets.
• Support cost-to-complete reporting.
