Job summary

AtkinsRéalis seeks a Traffic Management Specialist for the Traffic Operations Center in Asheville, NC. You will monitor congestion, respond to incidents, and coordinate with responders to minimize impacts on travel.

The role requires a high school diploma, TOC training, and dispatch/911 experience. Schedule includes second shift (1:45PM–10:15PM) with weekend/holiday duties as needed, offering growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (or equivalent); must have completed 90 day TOC training.
• Six months related dispatch/911 operations experience preferred.
• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be proficient with computer skills.
• Must have good command of the English language.
• Ability to perform in a professional courteous manner under pressure.
• Aptitude for geography and maps.

Responsibilities

• Detect and monitor traffic incidents using maps, cameras, radios, and other tech.
• Determine response to incidents considering characteristics, impacts, resources.
• Document incident details in real-time.
• Publish incident details to DriveNC.gov and inform travelers.
• Activate message boards to warn and reroute motorists.
• Relay critical intel to NCDOT and responders in real-time.
• Coordinate with IMAP and field staff across duties.
• Manage statewide alerts (Amber, Silver, Blue, Fugitive).
• Handle weather data during major events like hurricanes.
• Coordinate with other state DOTs and NC as primary contact.
• Review planned construction and events for impacts.
• Execute response plans for planned events and unplanned incidents.
• Perform routine system tests to ensure health.
