Job summary

AtkinsRéalis seeks a Traffic Management Specialist for the Traffic Operations Center in Asheville, NC to monitor incidents, publish traveler information, and coordinate with state agencies and responders. The role requires strong communication, geography aptitude, and the ability to work in a 2nd shift with weekend/holiday coverage.

Training lasts 6–8 weeks in the morning schedule, with expected compensation ranging from $20 to $22 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must have completed a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months related experience in dispatch center or 911 operations or comparable relevant experience is preferred.
• Experience in a position involving public contact and telephone responsibilities preferred.
• Proficient with computer skills; excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must have good command of the English language.
• Aptitude for geography and maps.

Responsibilities

• Detect and monitor traffic incidents using congestion maps, traffic cameras, responder radios and other technologies.
• Determine the appropriate response to incidents by assessing incident characteristics, traffic impacts, resources, and other factors.
• Document incident details, response activity, and critical data in real-time.
• Publish incident details on DriveNC.gov and create traveler information to help motorists avoid impacted roadways.
• Activate electronic roadside message boards to warn motorists and reroute traffic.
• Relay critical intel to NCDOT and emergency responders in real-time.
• Coordinate with IMAP and with NCDOT field staff including maintenance and traffic signal technicians.
• Manage statewide alerts for Amber, Silver, Blue and Fugitive alerts.
• Handle weather-related information during major events including hurricanes and tropical storms.
• Coordinate with DOT agencies from other states and serve as NC traffic ops contact.
• Research and review planned construction, maintenance, and events.
• Execute response plans for planned events and unplanned incidents.
• Perform routine device and system tests to support timely repairs and system health.
