Job summary

United States Postal Service is seeking a Lead Automotive Technician in Virginia District at Dulles area. The role leads a group of lower level technicians, performs the most complex repairs on motor vehicles, and guides others in use of diagnostic equipment.

Exam requirement applies; must pass tests and meet safety and regulatory standards. This on-site position carries a starting annual salary of $74,422, with evening shift hours (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM) and weekend days off (Sat, Sun).

Qualifications

Knowledge of automotive diagnostic techniques and ability to isolate trouble.
Proficiency with electrical/electronic diagnostic equipment.
Experience with engine, powertrain, emissions, and related systems.
Ability to read service manuals and wiring schematics.
Record information and complete parts/ERT paperwork.
Work safely with others and without direct supervision.

Responsibilities

Diagnose operating difficulties on a variety of vehicles and perform checks on engines and subsystems.
Perform computerized and electronic diagnostic tests using specialized equipment and interpret codes.
Conduct road tests before and after maintenance; annotate problems on work orders.
Troubleshoot malfunctioning vehicles and identify faulty parts.
Maintain vehicle maintenance records including repairs and labor hours.
Provide guidance to other mechanics and technicians on complex repairs and diagnostic equipment.
Observe safety practices and comply with regulations.
