Job summary

Harford County Public Schools seeks a Custodian I for Edgewood High School, Shift 2, to perform routine cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds and equipment. The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, using custodial equipment, following safety procedures, and the ability to climb ladders or access lifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum ninth grade education required.
• One year of experience in a custodial, mechanical trade or related area, preferred.
• Physically able to perform the essential functions, including lifting up to 50 pounds and climbing ladders/working with lifts.
• Valid driver’s license may be required for the position.

Responsibilities

• Selects appropriate equipment and sweeps and cleans floors in shops, classrooms, offices, corridors and other areas.
• Uses custodial equipment such as brooms, mops, power-operated scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, buffers, and other tools.
• Collects and disposes of trash, scrap and garbage.
• Unloads supplies and places them on shelves or storage racks.
• Moves furniture and other items weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.
• Maintains lavatories and cleans windows, fixtures, and related areas.
• Assists in snow removal and lawn/playground maintenance as directed.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
