Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking a dedicated custodian to perform routine cleaning of classrooms, cafeterias and common areas. The role includes handling cleaning equipment, following safety procedures, and assisting with events in the evening shift.

Training is provided on tools, supplies and safety, with responsibilities spanning from janitorial duties to securing doors after hours. The ideal candidate has GED or high school experience, and a preference for a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment and the ability to follow simple instructions.
• Basic ability to read and speak/understand English.

Responsibilities

• Clean cafeteria after each lunch and mop, realign chairs and tidy areas.
• Pick up paper and trash in bathrooms and hallways; clean spills.
• Dust rooms high and low; set classrooms for the next day.
• Move desks and tables; assist with special events setup.
• Secure doors at end of day and maintain classrooms/teacher lounge.
