Job summary

Avalon Housing is seeking a part‑time Residential Support Specialist for the Ann Arbor area. Based at Miller Manor, you will staff front desks, assist tenants, monitor safety, and coordinate services with external providers.

The role requires crisis response ability, strong communication, and a warm, nonjudgmental approach to diverse residents. Benefits include PTO, life and disability coverage, and a 403(b) plan.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to work well with diverse people in a non-judgmental way.
• Experience with people who are homeless or face mental illness, chronic health issues, or addiction is preferred.
• Capacity to respond to crisis situations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer skills: email, web searches, online documentation.
• Positive, enthusiastic attitude and commitment to helping those in need.
• Interest and experience with harm reduction approaches.

Responsibilities

• Check visitors in and out, answer phones and monitor security systems.
• Maintain safety and security of residents by enforcing program rules.
• Intervene in crises, respond to emergencies, and coordinate with emergency services when needed.
• Coordinate services for tenants and contact external providers as necessary.
• Work with onsite staff and visiting service providers; refer tenants to clinical staff as needed.
• Initiate maintenance requests and participate in staff meetings and trainings.
