Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician for an evening shift from 3pm to 11:30pm, 28 hours per week with weekend rotation. You will collect, label, and process patient specimens, ensuring accuracy and proper handling in a busy laboratory environment.

Responsibilities include venipuncture and fingersticks, data entry, reporting results to clinicians, and maintaining safety and HIPAA standards. Prior outpatient laboratory experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of phlebotomy coursework is required.
• Experience in a high-volume outpatient laboratory or inpatient setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and ensures proper identification for labeling and collection.
• Collects specimens including venipuncture and fingersticks per SOPs.
• Labels specimens, verifies orders, and logs data in the computer system.
• Mails and faxes reports to physician offices as needed.
• Maintains laboratory files and coordinates courier services.
• Performs quality control checks on eyewash stations.
• Adheres to safety protocols and infection control policies.
• Prioritizes tasks during heavy workloads to expedite results.
• Communicates with staff and providers regarding specimen status.
• Completes registrations and enters orders; notifies supervisors of issues.
