Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA is seeking a Patient & Equipment Transporter. You will escort ambulatory patients, transport by wheelchair, stretcher or bed, and ensure patient comfort and safety during the transport process.

This non-exempt role includes 32 scheduled hours with an evening shift, a union UFCW, and a competitive pay range of $19.00 to $31.55 per hour. A high school diploma and BLS within 6 months are required, with preferred hospital experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Good inter-personal skills and a customer service orientation to maintain a collaborative, patient focused effort between Patient Transportation and other hospital departments.
• Six months' experience in a hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Escorts ambulatory patients. Transports patient by wheelchair, stretcher or bed. Verifies identification by two identifiers and signs off on Safe Patient Transport Forms; notifies clinician if discrepancy.
• Assists nursing staff and/or lift tech in moving/positioning patients using lift devices; follow infection control processes.
• Delivers stretchers, beds, cribs and wheelchairs; assists in deep-cleaning transport equipment biannually; sanitizes transport vehicles between patient use.
• Transports patient specimens to Lab, Pathology, and blood products as required; transports contaminated equipment to Sterile Processing.
• Delivers other materials as required.
