Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Patient Care Technician to support nursing teams in the 2:30 PM - 11 PM shift. This non-exempt role involves direct patient care, observation, and contributing to a safe, healing environment.

The position emphasizes communication with RNs, basic life support, and ability to work calmly under pressure. A high school diploma or GED and BLS are required; English literacy and good computer skills are needed. A signing bonus may be offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school education or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Medical Terminology knowledge.
• Computer skills and basic data entry.
• Strong interpersonal skills for patient care and teamwork.
• Ability to remain calm under stress.

Responsibilities

• Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding patient observations and changes.
• Maintains constant observation for high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assists with activities of daily living and patient mobility using safety techniques.
• Performs vital signs, intake/output, and basic measurements per protocol.
• Assists with treatments and prepares equipment and supplies as directed.
• Ensures patient safety and de-escalation using approved interventions.
