Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I to join our care team in Massachusetts. Under licensed clinician supervision, you will perform a range of patient care activities and receive workplace education to support the healthcare team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current Basic Life Support certification required.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English clearly.
• Medical terminology knowledge and computer skills required.
• Strong interpersonal skills for teamwork and patient care.
• Ability to remain calm under stress or in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients.
• Provide constant observation of high‑risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
• Maintain a safe environment and assist with de‑escalation; follow restraint training when needed.
• Assist patients with daily living activities (hygiene, ambulation, meals).
• Assist moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients using proper safety techniques.
• Take and record vital signs, height, weight, and basic measurements.
• Perform EKGs, point-of-care tests, bladder scanning, and specimen transport.
• Phlebotomy as required by location and protocol.
• Assist with treatments by preparing equipment and supplies, using sterile technique.
• Assist with tube feeding, ostomy care, and related tasks as directed.
