Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring for a Night Shift Patient Care Technician to support RN staff in a high-acuity unit. The role involves direct patient care, monitoring, specimen collection, and assisting with treatments in a fast-paced hospital environment.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and BLS certification within 30 days. Candidates should be able to read, write, and communicate in English and maintain composure under pressure. A signing bonus may be available.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Basic Medical Terminology knowledge required.
• Ability to remain calm under stress or in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to RN regarding patient observations.
• Maintain constant observation of high-risk patients.
• Assist in creating a safe environment and apply restraints per policy when trained.
• Aid patients with personal care, mobility, meals, and nourishment.
• Assist in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients using proper safety techniques.
• Perform patient safety checks and follow fall prevention protocols.
• Take and record vital signs and measurements.
• Perform EKGs, POC tests, and collect specimens for lab transport.
• Assist RN/Practitioner with treatments and equipment setup.
• Support patient nutrition and ostomy care as directed.
• Demonstrate respectful, culturally appropriate communication with patients and staff.
• Restock supplies and follow unit procedures.
• Read communications and stay updated on unit changes.
