Job summary

Tufts Medicine seeks an entry-level Patient Access Specialist for the Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus Emergency Department. You will interview inpatients and outpatients to obtain accurate registration data, verify insurance, collect demographic and financial information, and handle pre-service financial clearance.

Over the first weeks you will train during daytime hours, with follow-up training possible in evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience in customer service, hospital registration, medical office, insurance, etc. (preferred).
• Familiarity with computer-based patient registration and basic office software.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Pre-Registration tasks for inpatients and outpatients prior to their date of service, collecting demographic, financial, and clinical data for financial clearance.
• Obtain consent for treatments and explain signature requirements to patients or representatives.
• Verify insurance coverage and eligibility, add appropriate plan codes, and educate on coordination of benefits.
• Collect information for auto and workers' compensation registrations and document missing items or reasons.
• Inform patients of financial liabilities and assist with time-of-service collections following scripting.
