Job summary

Southern Virginia Mental Health Inst is seeking a 2nd Shift Nurse Shift Supervisor to lead nursing care on the 3:00–11:30 p.m. shift. The role supervises up to 72 inpatients and 65–95 nursing staff, ensuring 24/7 operations and high-quality care in a psychiatric hospital.

You will plan, direct and coordinate services, respond to emergencies, and maintain compliance with TJC, CMS, and OIG standards. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available for new state service hires staying one year.

Qualifications

• Licensed or license-eligible RN in good standing in Virginia.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Experience in nursing management or shift administration.
• Extensive experience in psychiatric nursing.
• Knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles for adult patients.
• Ability to supervise staff, use EHR and scheduling systems, and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct and coordinate medical and health services during a shift.
• Oversee admissions and discharges and staffing for the shift.
• Respond to emergency codes and ensure regulatory standards are met.
• Coordinate resources and improve patient care per nursing department policies.
