Job summary

Memorial Hermann Cypress seeks a Medical Lab Scientist to join our team in a part-time role. Schedule is 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., with 3-8 hour shifts per week including every other weekend.

This position performs laboratory testing to support patient care in a fast-paced environment and requires MLS education and appropriate certifications. Interprets results, maintains analyzers, and collaborates with hospital staff to ensure timely, accurate diagnostics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Laboratory Science or related field.
• Equivalency required for foreign education.

Responsibilities

• Manages daily laboratory operations including specimen collections, processing, quality control, testing, and result reporting.
• Interprets and verifies test results; maintains analyzers and troubleshoots instruments as needed.
• Performs clerical duties to maintain efficient workflow and supports system-wide quality initiatives.
• Maintains safety and compliance with policies including CLIA, CAP, FDA, JC, CMS, AABB and other standards.
• Supports point-of-care testing and blood bank operations as needed; serves as a resource for staff and participates in competency assessments.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Laboratory Science

Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Science AND Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical/medical laboratory science

For SW/TMC Microbiology positions – Doctoral, Masters, or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Laboratory Science or biological science

For SW Molecular positions – Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Clinical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, Biology, Biological Science, Molecular Genetic Technology or Biochemical Chemistry
