Job summary

Boston College Libraries are seeking an evening Access Services Specialist to join the Access Services Department at O'Neill Library.

Under the direction of the Circulation and Collection Maintenance Manager, the Specialist plays a central role in fulfillment operations, collection maintenance, course reserves support, and interlibrary loan processing, while also staffing service points at O'Neill and Bapst Libraries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Familiarity with library organization, cataloging, and classification.
• Ability to lift heavy objects as defined by OSHA regulations and push a fully loaded book truck.
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment and independently.

Responsibilities

• Staff service desks, charge/discharge materials, and help users locate reserve items and online resources.
• Explain library policies and answer basic reference questions when librarians are unavailable.
• Assist remote users via LibAnswers during evening/overnight hours.
• Maintain routine collection maintenance activities, shelving, item searches, hold shelf maintenance, processing patron requests, and receiving new acquisitions.
• Participate in large-scale collection maintenance projects.
• Provide processing support for Interlibrary Loan and Course Reserves.
• Responsible for closing routines and serves as a primary contact for campus police and facilities.
• Mediate patron issues and supervise student employees staffing two service points.
