Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform laboratory procedures and obtain results used for diagnosis and treatment. The role requires following established procedures with independent judgment and minimal supervision.

Responsibilities include high- to waived-complexity testing, quality control, instrument maintenance, and training of new staff. An Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology is required, with internship experience and potential ASCP

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology required.
• Specialized Diploma must meet CLIA grandfathered MLT regulations.
• Less than 1 year of experience with clinical laboratory internship.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific documents.
• Ability to read, understand, and speak basic English.
• Demonstrated ability to use computer systems and software programs.
• Flexibility in meeting department scheduling needs.
• Ability to apply mathematical skills and interpret data.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw conclusions.
• Ability to interpret technical instructions and work with abstract and concrete variables.

Responsibilities

• Performs high complexity, moderate complexity, or waived lab testing in the assigned department.
• Uses advanced clinical laboratory instrumentation according to SOPs.
• Verifies and reports results with independent judgment; monitors reasonableness and critical values.
• Performs quality control and reports unacceptable results.
• Performs preventative maintenance per SOPs.
• Recognizes and corrects instrument or procedural malfunctions.
• Provides clinical orientation and training to new employees or students.
