Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Full-time Specimen Processing Technician in Wisconsin to ensure proper labeling, specimen handling, and accurate data entry. The role involves patient interactions, data verification, and support for laboratory operations.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma, excellent communication, basic computer skills, and the ability to multitask in a busy environment. No prior experience required; training provided.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under general supervision.
• Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.

Responsibilities

• Ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing; resolves specimen ID/requisition problems.
• Obtains billing/insurance information and/or verifies diagnosis code information.
• Enters and verifies test requests into the lab system.
• Answers and screens telephone calls.
• Receives and sorts specimens; packs and tracks specimens for transport; stores and retrieves specimens.
• Processes specimens for testing including aliquoting with proper ID.
• Generates and distributes reports after reviewing pending and management reports.
• Helps with inventory and ordering of supplies.
• Maintains and files orders, reports, and correspondence.
• Acts as a resource and trains new employees.
