Job summary

Mel Trotter Ministries is seeking an Intake Specialist - 2nd Shift in Grand Rapids to provide a warm, welcoming presence for guests at the shelter. You will connect guests with services, orient them for the night, and maintain a safe, orderly environment while coordinating with care teams.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed communication, de-escalation, and accurate digital documentation. 4 back-to-back 10-hour shifts on weekdays and weekends with three days off follow an evening schedule.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred (not required).
• Experience in residential care, counseling, or crisis intervention preferred (not required).

Responsibilities

• Provide a warm, welcoming presence during afternoon/evening shifts.
• Help guests connect with support and orient them for the night.
• Conduct rounds, perimeter checks, and monitor safety and security.
• Use trauma-informed de-escalation and coordinate with medical or law enforcement when needed.
• Document updates for the incoming shift and assist with shelter operations.
