As an Intake Specialist - 2nd Shift, you'll provide a warm, welcoming presence at Mel Trotter Ministries during the afternoon and evening hours. You'll help guests connect with support, feel oriented, and settle in for the night while maintaining a safe, orderly environment. Working closely with Triage Specialists, Case Managers, and other teammates, you'll bring compassion, clear communication, and a steady presence to each interaction.
Required qualifications/skills:
You'll be onsite in Grand Rapids for four back-to-back 10-hour shifts, including Saturdays and Sundays, followed by three consecutive days off. Your shift starts at the entry-welcoming arrivals, answering questions, and guiding people where they need to go. As the evening progresses, you'll help guests locate their assigned beds and navigate shelter spaces.
Throughout your shift, you'll make rounds, complete perimeter checks, monitor cameras, and stay attentive to radio traffic. When tensions arise, you'll use trauma-informed, non-physical de-escalation and coordinate with medical personnel or law enforcement when needed. You'll also help keep storage, showers, and heat treatment areas clean and ready, support the Clinic, Sobering Center, and Detox rooms as requested, and close out your shift with accurate digital documentation and important updates for the incoming team.
