Job summary

First Student, Inc. in New Haven, CT is hiring a Gas and Diesel Technician for our maintenance team. You will inspect, diagnose, and repair gas- and diesel-powered buses and vehicles to keep the fleet safe and ready for service.

The role offers steady hourly pay, a 1:00-9:30 p.m. schedule, and full-time, year-round employment plus company-paid CDL training, ASE certifications, and comprehensive benefits. Opportunities to advance exist across maintenance and operations.

Qualifications

• At least three years of automotive, diesel, heavy-truck, or bus maintenance and repair experience.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• A valid driver's license.
• CDL Class B within 60 days of employment, with company training provided.
• Willingness to participate in ASE certification program.
• Strong computer and maintenance-documentation skills.
• Dependability, attention to detail and safe repair practices.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair gas- and diesel-powered vehicles to keep the fleet safe and ready for service.
• Diagnose mechanical concerns and complete vehicle maintenance and repairs.
• Inspect and repair brakes and brake systems.
• Perform engine tune-ups and repairs to suspension, drivetrains, transmissions, clutches and related components.
• Complete preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections.
• Accurately complete work orders and document repairs.
• Assist with mobile emergency repairs when needed.
• Follow company safety standards and maintenance procedures.
• Work with fellow technicians and operations staff to maintain vehicle availability.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop.
