Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a dock worker in New Jersey to transport freight between dock areas and trailers. You will move freight using forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, verify paperwork, and secure loads for safe transport.

This role requires physical work and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. The job involves variable hours, potential overtime, and a starting pay range of $22.77 to $26.64 per hour, with benefits for regular employees after eligibility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Prior warehousing/freight handling/forklift experience preferred.
• Hostler/yard mule duties experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/freight of varying weights several times a week; lift 100 lb dock plates; 75 lb trailer doors.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, push/pull freight.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team.
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading to trailers.
• Perform freight handling using forklift, pallet jack and hand truck.
• Verify documentation matches freight description (type, weight, hazardous materials).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with laws/regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
