Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a dock worker to transport freight across the dock area to/from trailers for loading and unloading. The role requires operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, verifying freight documentation, and securing loads in trailers.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, are at least 18, and have warehousing or forklift experience. Physical duties include lifting up to 100 lbs, bending, twisting, and working in varied dock conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior warehousing/freight handling or forklift experience preferred.
• Hostler/yard mule duties experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight up to 100 pounds and open trailer doors with up to 75 pounds of lift force.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, push/pull freight.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across the dock area to/from trailers for loading and unloading.
• Operate forklift, pallet jack and hand truck as needed.
• Verify documentation matches freight description (type, weight, hazardous materials).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps or rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
