Job summary

Edward Elmhurst Health Glenbrook Hospital seeks a Patient Safety Observer for the Emergency Department, evening per-diem. The role provides continuous patient observation from 3:00 PM to 3:30 AM, ensuring safety and privacy while guiding patients away from at-risk behaviors.

Under supervision you will monitor patients, communicate with staff, document observations, and participate in shift handoffs. CPR/BLS and Care Companion training are required, with on-the-job training provided.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Care Companion class completion within two weeks.
• CPR/BLS certification from American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Continuously observe and monitor assigned patients at bedside or via video monitoring systems.
• Maintain constant visual observation to ensure patient safety.
• Verbally redirect patients from engaging in at-risk behaviors using in-person communication or two-way audio devices.
• Immediately notify nursing staff of patient needs, behavioral changes, or emergency situations.
• Participate in shift handoffs and communicate patient status and behaviors.
• Collaborate with nursing staff and other team members to ensure patient safety.
