Job summary

FRIENDS, Inc. is seeking a Full-Time Crisis Advocate for the 2nd shift to provide trauma-informed crisis intervention and shelter support.

You will manage the 4:00PM–12:00AM shift, respond to the 24/7 crisis line, and help maintain a safe, structured communal living environment for residents in the evening hours. The role requires independent decision-making, strong communication, and the ability to balance crisis response with ongoing shelter operations.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or HSED and willingness to train.
• Experience in crisis intervention and trauma-informed service provision is preferred.
• Excellent communication and cultural competence when engaging diverse populations.
• Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Strong self-motivation and organizational skills; able to manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Answer and respond to the 24/7 crisis hotline using trauma-informed practices.
• Assess safety needs, provide emotional support, safety planning, and referrals.
• Determine eligibility for shelter services and complete intake/pre-screenings.
• Serve as the primary on-site staff during second shift and maintain shelter safety.
• Document hotline calls and client interactions in the agency database.
• Monitor shelter environment, conduct safety checks, and de-escalate when needed.
• Complete shift handoffs, reports, and data entry by the end of each shift.
• Maintain a clean, organized shelter and support room turnovers.
