Job summary

The Crisis Center for South Suburbia seeks a dedicated Domestic Violence Advocate to provide crisis intervention, residential client services, and administrative support in a shelter environment. You will answer the 24-hour crisis hotline, perform intakes, and help ensure the safety and well-being of residents throughout their stay.

Responsibilities include coordinating referrals, leading group sessions, and maintaining a clean, secure shelter space while promoting self-sufficiency for clients

Responsibilities

• Answer the 24-hour crisis hotline with crisis intervention and referrals.
• Complete agency intakes and provide information about shelter services.
• Handle hotline documentation and accurate client intake forms.
• Respond to inquiries with compassionate, timely service.
• Monitor client entry and security within the shelter environment.
• Conduct comprehensive shelter check-ins and exits with proper documentation.
• Establish regular client check-ins and coordinate room assignments and linens.
• Prepare and serve meals during shifts for residents; maintain kitchen cleanliness.
• Organize shelter food stock and label items in freezers and refrigerators.
• Assist with room changes and ensure safety and shelter guideline adherence.
• Provide trauma-informed care and domestic violence education to residents.
• Facilitate group sessions on communication, life skills, and DV education.
• Maintain shelter cleanliness and organization; manage chores and supplies.
• Document daily interactions and issues in shift reports; coordinate with staff.
• Support training of new staff and volunteers; participate in meetings and supervision.
