Job summary

G&W Electric Co is seeking a Crater I to prepare and assemble wooden containers and crates for shipment of large and heavy products, ensuring packaging integrity and safety. You will select materials, check bills of materials, and assemble orders using hand trucks and hoists in a state-of-the-art facility.

The role requires basic carpentry/packing skills, ability to read English instructions, familiarity with tablesaws/bandsaws, and the stamina for a medium-heavy workload.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required or combination of work experience and skill development
• 0–1 year of manufacturing experience preferred
• Able to safely use small hand and power tools
• Experience using table saws and band saws
• Able to perform basic mathematical calculations and accurate measuring
• Basic computer skills
• Able to read instructions and understand verbal instructions in English
• Able to read and interpret drawings and bills of materials

Responsibilities

• Construct non-standard boxes, crates, or skids for shipments
• Select materials and methods to protect products during transit
• Check orders against bills of material and report shortages or errors
• Assemble orders and move/direct products using hand trucks, pallet jacks or hoists
• Record date, quantity, shipment method and sign off
• Mark order numbers on crates or packages
• Maintain safe, clean work environment and conserve resources
• Train others in basic crating tasks as needed
• Inspect all work before passing to next operation
• Document actions with production and quality forms
