Job summary

G&W Electric in Romeoville, IL is hiring a Crater to prepare, assemble and pack large, heavy and fragile equipment for shipment. You will construct crates and skids, select protective materials, and ensure items are secured for transit. The role requires reading drawings and Bills of Materials, and working with hand tools and saws.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent
• 0–1 year of manufacturing or basic carpentry experience
• Ability to safely use small hand and power tools
• Experience reading drawings and Bills of Material (BOM)
• Basic math and measurement skills
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to read instructions and understand verbal instructions in English

Responsibilities

• Prepare and assemble crates and skids for shipments
• Select packing materials and bracing methods to prevent shifting
• Check orders against bills of material for completeness
• Assemble orders and move them to designated locations using equipment
• Record shipment data and sign off on actions
• Label crates with order numbers and tracking information
• Maintain safe, clean work environment and follow procedures
• Conserve resources by efficient use of tools and materials
• Train others in basic crating tasks as needed
• Inspect work prior to passing to the next operation
• Document actions on production and quality forms
