Job summary

Flatbush Development Corporation is seeking a Group Leader for afterschool programs in Brooklyn. You will supervise K–8 students, support homework time, and facilitate literacy, STEAM, and enrichment activities in alignment with DYCD and DOH guidelines.

You’ll work five evenings per week (Mon–Fri, 6:00 PM–10:00 PM), up to 20 hours, at a rate of $17 per hour. A strong focus on youth development, safety, and collaborative teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with school-age children (K–8) in afterschool, camp, or youth development settings preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead activities, manage groups, and engage youth from diverse backgrounds.
• Must pass all required background checks and DOE clearance.

Responsibilities

• Supervise program participants at all times during program operations and on-site/off-site locations.
• Assist in safe pickup and delivery of participants from community schools as directed.
• Provide active homework assistance to ensure engagement and support during homework time.
• Plan and implement engaging academic enrichment and recreation activities with literacy, STEAM, youth development and service elements.
• Prepare daily lesson plans, gather supplies, and support activity facilitators as needed.
• Foster a safe, supportive environment and ensure participants follow the schedule.
• Promote positive youth development and model professional behavior.
• Participate in meetings and trainings (minimum of 15 hours per year) and apply learning to improve program quality.
• Adhere to NYS SACC regulations and program procedures; report incidents impacting safety or quality.
