Job summary

Flatbush Development Corporation is seeking a Group Leader to supervise and engage youth in afterschool programs in Brooklyn. The role ensures safety, supports academic enrichment, and aligns activities with DYCD, DOH, and NYCDOE guidelines.

You will facilitate literacy, STEAM, and recreation activities, prepare lesson plans, and collaborate with staff to support social-emotional growth and responsible behavior in grades K–8. Evening hours apply.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills demonstrated with youth and families.
• Able to organize activities, schedules, and materials.
• Solid interpersonal skills to engage diverse youth.
• Ability to supervise groups and work well with staff.

Responsibilities

• Supervising program participants at all times during program operation, in all locations where the program operates, including off-site trips.
• Assisting in the safe and proper pick-up and delivery of participants from community schools, as assigned by the program director.
• Providing active homework assistance to ensure that all participants are engaged and supported during homework time.
• Planning and implementing engaging academic enrichment and recreation activities that incorporate literacy, STEAM, youth development, and community service.
• Preparing daily lesson plans and unit outlines, and using curricular material provided to facilitate activities.
• Initiating guidance and support sessions with appropriate staff if materials are not clear.
• Gathering all supplies and preparing the activity space.
• Assisting teachers and activity specialists in the facilitation of lessons/activities by actively participating and encouraging participant involvement.
• Creating and maintaining a supportive and safe environment by keeping spaces clean and organized.
• Following the program schedule and ensuring that all participants follow their schedules.
