Job summary

Flatbush Development Corporation is seeking a Group Leader to supervise K–8 participants in an afterschool setting in Brooklyn. You will support daily activities, assist with homework, and help run literacy and STEAM activities in alignment with DYCD and NYCDOE guidelines.

The role emphasizes youth development, behavior guidance, and creating a safe, engaging environment. Hours are up to 20 per week, Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM, with compensation $17–$17.50 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; college coursework preferred.
• Experience with school-age children in afterschool or youth programs.
• Ability to lead activities and manage groups.
• Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Background checks, fingerprinting, and DOE clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise participants at all times during program operation, including off-site trips.
• Provide active homework assistance to ensure engagement during homework time.
• Plan and implement engaging academic enrichment and recreation activities.
• Support youth development through positive behavior guidance and relationship-building.
• Participate in meetings and trainings; apply skills to improve program quality.
• Follow safety procedures and report incidents as required.
