Job summary

Waymo LLC in Germany seeks an experienced Privacy Counsel to lead EU regulatory compliance, embedding GDPR and local data protection standards into our product launches and engineering practices.

In this hybrid role reporting to Managing Counsel, you will partner with Product, Engineering and AI/ML teams to design privacy solutions, build relationships with EU DPAs, manage DPIAs and data incident responses, and guide policy engagement shaping privacy legislation for responsible innovation.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor with German license to practice law.
• 8+ years of experience in European privacy and regulatory compliance.
• Deep GDPR and German data protection knowledge with practical application.
• Experience engaging with DPAs and cross-border data transfers.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Privacy Counsel for Waymo's EU operations.
• Advise on Privacy by Design for EU market entry and collaborate with Product/Engineering/AI teams.
• Build relationships with EU Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) and manage DPIAs.
• Lead rapid EU data incident response, notification timelines, and regulatory risk mitigation.
• Partner with Public Policy, Trust & Safety, and Regulatory Affairs to shape privacy legislation.
