Job summary

the company in San Francisco is seeking a Senior Counsel, Privacy & Product to guide privacy and data governance for a global wholesale marketplace. You will partner with engineering and product teams to craft practical legal solutions and shape frameworks that protect data at scale.

You will lead privacy policy development, stay ahead of regulatory changes (EU/UK GDPR, CCPA), and collaborate cross‑functionally to enable product growth while mitigating risk.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school and active US bar in at least one jurisdiction.
• 5+ years of legal experience with substantive privacy work (firm or in‑house).
• Deep expertise in global privacy law (EU/UK GDPR, CCPA, and other state laws).
• Experience counseling advertising product teams and/or online marketplaces is a plus.
• Experience with litigation or regulator engagement is a plus.
• Actively experimenting with AI in legal work and ready to dive deeper.
• Excellent communication skills with product/engineering teams; risk‑calibrated guidance.
• Scrappy and resourceful; able to get things done.

Responsibilities

• Partner with engineering, product, data, and design teams to provide practical legal guidance across product development and go‑to‑market strategy.
• Advise the business on data governance issues including privacy, data use, information security, retention/deletion, and cross‑border data flows.
• Build and mature the company’s data governance program with frameworks and processes; support implementation and drive improvements.
• Track developments in global privacy laws and translate them into actionable guidance for the business.
• Draft and maintain privacy policies, notices, standards, playbooks, and training to scale good decisions across the company.
