Job summary

Latham & Watkins is seeking an OGC Counsel to join the Office of the General Counsel in the US, with a hybrid/in-office work arrangement. The role focuses on resolving conflicts of interest and applying ethics rules to new matters, waivers, and engagement terms, coordinating with Ethics Committee Members and firm leadership.

You will review guidelines, draft waivers and ethics walls, conduct research on professional responsibility issues, and support trainings and ongoing risk management across

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent.
• Bar admission with active status.
• Minimum of two years of experience in legal ethics, conflicts of interest, professional responsibility, or related risk management.
• Law firm experience preferred.
• Experience with conflicts clearance processes, engagement terms, outside counsel guidelines, waivers, or ethics walls preferred.

Responsibilities

• Resolve lateral attorney and new matter conflicts; advise Ethics Committee Members, firm attorneys, and other stakeholders.
• Review conflicts checks; analyze results; identify potential conflicts and determine clearance, waiver, screening, or escalation.
• Analyze outside counsel guidelines, engagement letters, and RFPs; identify issues related to conflicts, ethics, liability, and firm policy; coordinate with stakeholders to resolve or escalate.
• Draft, review, and advise on waivers, ethics walls, engagement letters, and related documents with Senior/Managing Counsel.
• Conduct legal research on ethics rules and conflicts topics; support resolution of matters and projects.
• Assist in preparing trainings on conflicts, ethics, professional responsibility, and related topics.
