Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active New York Bar license in good standing.
  • 3+ years of attorney experience involving estates, probate, or estate administration.
  • Experience with New York Surrogate's Court proceedings.
  • Strong understanding of probate, fiduciary appointments, and estate administration.
  • Excellent legal drafting, research, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Handle probate and estate administration matters from inception through resolution.
  • Prepare, review, and oversee petitions and supporting documents filed in New York Surrogate's Courts.
  • Handle fiduciaryappointments and Letters of Administration.
  • Attend Surrogate's Court appearances throughout New York.
  • Advise attorneys on estate issues impacting litigation, settlements, releases, and distributions.
  • Assist with estate matters involving personal injury, survival, and wrongful death claims.
  • Prepare and review wrongful death compromise petitions and related court submissions.
  • Work directly with families, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and other interested parties.
  • Coordinate with outside estate counsel for matters involving jurisdictions outside New York.
  • Research probate, estate administration, fiduciary, and jurisdiction-specific issues.
  • Monitor estate proceedings through completion.
  • Serve as the firm's primary internal resource for estate-related legal questions.
  • Help oversee the day-to-day operations of the Estates Department and support its legal staff

Job Details

The firm is looking for an experienced attorney to oversee estate-related matters involving deceased clients, claimants, beneficiaries, and distributees.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with a strong background in probate, estate administration, or Surrogate's Court proceedings who is interested in bringing that expertise into a larger litigation environment.

You do not need to come directly from a personal injury firm. Attorneys coming from a traditional trusts and estates or probate practice will be strongly considered.

Responsibilities

What We're Looking For
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active New York Bar license in good standing
  • 3+ years of attorney experience involving estates, probate, or estate administration
  • Experience with New York Surrogate's Court proceedings
  • Strong understanding of probate, fiduciary appointments, and estate administration
  • Excellent legal drafting, research, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple estate matters
  • Plaintiff personal injury or wrongful death experience is a plus, but it is not required.
  • If your background is primarily in trusts & estates, probate, or estate administration, we would still love to speak with you.
